Microwave Onions for Hot Dogs
To microwave onions for hot dogs is quite quick and easy, ideal for a quick snack or treat. You don't need any special dishes, just a microwave safe bowl. I usually use a Pyrex jug if I am just cooking a few onions, or microwave bowl if I'm making a batch. Any microwave safe dish is fine to use.
You can pre-cook the onions and store them in a pot in the fridge to save time, then simply re-heat the onions for 1 minute in the microwave when it's time to serve up.
- Chop or slice your onions to the size and shape you want.
- Melt 1-2 tablespoons of butter, margarine, or oil in your microwave oven.
- Tip the chopped onions into the bowl and stir them round to coat them in your fat.
- Microwave for up to about 9-10 minutes, in 1-2 minute bursts on high power, giving them a stir every 1-2 minutes until they are the colour you want.

You can also microwave hot dogs to go into bread rolls, so you've got onions and hot dogs.
Drain off most of the liquid/brine from your jar or can of hot dogs.

- Microwave for 1 minute, turn the hot dog sausages over, microwave for 1 more minute.

Quick & Easy Hot Work Lunch
If you've got a microwave oven at work, you can pre-cook the onions and place your (drained) hot dog sausages and onions in a lidded microwave safe dish. Slice your bread rolls and pop them into a bag. When it's lunchtime, simply re-heat the sausages and onions for about 1 minute in the microwave to warm up, then place them in your bread rolls. Don't forget to take ketchup or mustard with you!
